Eddie Piller Presents British Mod Sounds of the 1960s

EDDIE PILLER è uno dei personaggi più influenti nella storia dell'epopea mod.
Dalla fanzine "Extraordinary sensations" al ruolo di fondatore della Acid Jazz, a una proficua carriera da DJ, si è dedicato negli ultimi anni a realizzare eccellenti compilation (anche con Martin Freeman) che hanno circoscritto sempre meglio il concetto di "Musica Mod".

In questo nuovo quadruplo CD scava nei profondissimi 60's, pescando 100 brani di band che affollavano i locali frequentati dai mod e che proprio dalla scena prendevano spunto per la loro musica.

Si spazia da nomi noti come High Numbers, Small Faces, Kinks, Spencer Davis Group, Yardbirds, Action, Creation, Fleurs de Lys, George Fame, PP Arnold con gli Small Faces (scegliendo però sempre brani particolari e mai scontati) a oscuri e perduti protagonisti di brevi apparizioni.
In alcuni casi proponendo anche inediti o brani introvabili.

In mezzo i primi passi di Rod Stewart, dei John's Children di Marc Bolan, David Bowie, i Bluesology di Elton John, i Rockin Vickers di Lemmy, futuro Motorhead, gli Episode Six di Ian Gillan e Roger Glover futuri Deep Purple, gli Spectres di Francis Rossi (poi negli Status Quo) che riprendono "I' ain't got nothin yet" dei Blues Magoos.
E poi i Dog Soul che suonano "Big bird" (ripresa poi dai Jam) con Jim Rodford poi con Argent, Kinks e Zombies o il duetto tra Rod Stewart e PP Arnold.

La lista è lunga, la musica sempre godibilissima (prevalentemente circoscritta a un ruvido rhythm and blues, beat, alcune prime influenze psichedeliche), l'ascolto ovviamente travolgente.
