Ringo Starr - It don't come easy / 1970

Uno dei migliori brani incisi da un ex Beatles.
Prevalentemente composto da George Harrison, ne cedette tutti i diritti all'amico Ringo.

Inzialmente intitolato You Gotta Pay Your Dues nel febbraio 1970 ne venne inciso un demo ad Abbey Road, durante le registrazioni delll'album solo di Ringo "Sentimental journey" con George alla chitarra acustica ed elettrica, Ringo alla batteria, Klaus Voormann al basso, Stephen Stills al pianoforte, Peter Ham e Tom Evans dei Badfinger ai cori.

Nel demo si sentono chiari i cori "Hare Khrisna", che nella versione definitiva saranno mixati a volume più basso, meno percettibile, sotto l'assolo di chitarra.

La versione definitiva fu completata successivamente, l'8 marzo, con Mal Evans al tamburello e Ron Cattermole al sax e alla tromba, ai Trident Studios e con l'aggiunta della traccia vocale di Ringo e un pianoforte di Gary Wright in ottobre .

Fu pubblicato nell'aprile 1971 e raggiunse il quarto posto delle classifiche inglesi e americane e il primo in Canada.

Ringo Starr lo ha costantemente inserito nei suoi live act a partire dalla sua prima All Starr Band del 1989 con Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Clarence Clemons, Jim Keltner.

Nel testo un cenno (consapevole) alla recente pessima fine dei Beatles e uno sguardo al futuro:

Molto interessante e particolare la facciata B "Early 1970" un country rock (con George alla chitarra e piano e Kalus Voorman al basso) il cui testo fa esplicito riferimento agli altri tre Beatles. Al brano collaborò inizialmente anche John Lennon a livello di produzione. Ringo suona anche la chitarra acustica e il dobro.
